Description
Formed by the meltwater of the Wisconsinan glacier roughly 13,000 years ago the Sheyenne River is the longest river within North Dakota, beginning near McClusky, North Dakota and ending nearly six hundred miles later, when it connects with the Red River in Fargo.
I wanted to celebrate this important facet of North Dakota’s geography. The piece opens with the echoes of the receding glacier, and continues to build and build, just like the river. Although fanfare-like in nature, the piece ends quietly, just like the current Sheyenne River, protecting eastern North Dakota.
