Tales of the River Horse, for bassoon and piano
A premature baby hippo survives and becomes the toast of a Midwestern town. A tribe in Madagascar claims to have seen a long extinct pygmy hippo. A wealthy American proposes to grow hippos in the bayous of Louisiana. A fallen cartel leader abandons his private zoo, leading to hippos becoming a dominant species in the mountains of Colombia.
This new work will be a 13-14 minutes exploration of these stories. The piece will be designed so that each story could be told separately, or as a subset of stories. The cost to join is $100, and special rates are available for students wishing to join. (Contact me for more details on this.) The Consortium will be open until September 1st, 2024.
Martin will be giving a preview performance of the final movement, Hipopótamo de Cocaína, at the 2024 International Double Reed Society Annual Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona in July 2024.Members of the consortium will receive 1.) a digital copy of the score, 2.) an autographed physical copy of the score, and 3.) exclusive performing rights until November 1st, 2025.
