Description
As a teacher, I have often thought that solos for young performers are often lacking. Many are very basic transcriptions in Concert Bb or F, ignoring the fact that these solos should also help teach new concepts.
When I wrote The Young Paleontologist’s Guide to North American Fossils, my goal was to write solos that allowed young performers to explore new areas of their playing, including atonal music, chromatics and serving as a secondary voice against the primary material in the piano.
This was written for my nephew, George, for his first Christmas as a horn player. I used our shared love for fossils. Focusing on prehistoric creatures from North America, this collection goes on a journey from the Permian to the Triassic, the Jurassic, the Cretaceous, and finally, the Ice Age.
